To measure the actual pressure. Comprises a circular gauge of 100 mm diameter with 40 mm depth. The dial reads 0-1.4 2 2 Kg/cm and 0-20 lb/in and the case has a clear perspex back so that the working parts may be seen. Gauge is fitted on a brass pillar of size 60 x 25 mm height x outer diameter. A riffled tubule of 8 mm diameter projects from the side of the pillar for connection to the system under investigation. Mounted on heavy, cast iron base of size 102 x 102 x 25 mm with four rubber feet. Overall height 225 mm.

For the observation of brownian movement in smoke particles. The apparatus consist of a black wooden or plastic box with a removable plastic lid. The box contains a smoke cell, a cylindrical glass condensing lens and 12 V 3 W festoon bulb, fitted with two 4 mm socket terminals for connection to 12 V supply. Lid has a small aperature glazed with a microcover glass which cover the smoke cell. Cell is placed on the microscope stage and connected to 12 V supply by terminals. Cell is filled with smoke and cover slip is used to retain the smoke. Brownian motion will be observed at least after 15 minutes.
