Description : Low friction, open design of Gyroscope for studies of
rotational motion. The low friction allows speeds slow
enough to let students study slow precession as well as fast.
The completely open model lets students stop precession by
grabbing the vertical shaft and observe that the Gyroscope
dips. This is what mathematics of rotation says will happen.
The apparatus comprises a stable round heavy base so that
every experiment is free from wobble and vibration. Two
counter weights allows a quick coarse adjustment and
accurate fine adjustment for proper balancing. Steel vertical
shaft of size 300 x 10 mm length x diameter, fitted with two
steel discs of diameter 75 and 100 mm. Discs are spun by
wrapping a string and pulling or discs can even be spun by
hand. Gyroscope is an exceptionally fine tool for illustrating
the concepts of rotational motion.
